9. My sore throat is likely STREP THROAT if:
ANSWER: D. My tonsils are big, bright red, with white spots.
Criteria that suggest STREP throat are:
- NO cough
- Swollen, tender glands in the FRONT of your neck
- Fever ( temperature > 100.4°)
- Red, oozing tonsils
If all four are present, we typically treat for strep (prescribe antibiotics) without testing.
If 2-3 are present, we may choose to do a rapid strep test
If 1 or none are there, we do not test nor treat.
