College Student Health Quiz

9. My sore throat is likely STREP THROAT if:

ANSWER: D. My tonsils are big, bright red, with white spots.

Criteria that suggest STREP throat are:

  1. NO cough
  2. Swollen, tender glands in the FRONT of your neck
  3. Fever ( temperature > 100.4°)
  4. Red, oozing tonsils

If all four are present, we typically treat for strep (prescribe antibiotics) without testing.
If 2-3 are present, we may choose to do a rapid strep test
If 1 or none are there, we do not test nor treat.
