Jill Grimes' STD quiz

6. STDs can:

ANSWER: C. Cause infertility.

Bacterial STDs can be cured with antibiotics, but any damage done to the reproductive system (scarring) will not be undone by curing the disease. Many STDs are viral — herpes, HIV, HPV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C — and have no medicine that can eradicate them. Chlamydia and gonorrhea cause the vast majority of cases of pelvic inflammatory disease, or PID, which causes an estimated 100,000 women annually to become infertile in the United States.
